Young People

I will hear you. The most amazing thing that a young person has ever said to me is 'you're okay, I feel safe with you'.

I specialise and have experience with people of all ages, building a connection together where we can look at things together.

Young people

I have lots of experience working with young people aged 16 to 25. You can look at my main information about counselling as well but here I have given some examples of specific areas where I can listen to you in a confidential space, collaboratively and compassionately:

  • Identity- I am an LGBTQIAA+ ally and have walked alongside people who are exploring their sexuality or gender identity

  • Families- I have an understanding of how families can be hard as you become your own person and that each family is unique

  • Relationships- I can hear about your relationships and friendships and give you a space to explore the feelings and emotions, knowing that I am separate to any dynamics

  • Navigating the university or college system- I know universities and colleges can be difficult to navigate and can listen to your experience

  • Starting out at a new job- Again entering employment can be challenging and I can listen to you

  • The NHS system- I can hear you if you are trying to access support or diagnosis through the NHS, for both your physical and mental health. I have an understanding of the change from CAMHS to adult services and can listen to you or refer you to the relevant advocacy support

  • Difficult experiences and feelings- I am a trauma informed counsellor and have experience of listening to people expressing difficult feelings, including intrusive and suicidal thoughts, as well as grief and loss

You can self-refer to me using the contact form and we can work out how to make counselling accessible and affordable for you.

Children

If you are a parent, I can arrange to meet your child in a way that works for both them and you. You can fill in my contact form and we can make counselling accessible for them as a unique person. I don't usually counsel people under 10 because I feel that other forms of therapy are better, for example play therapy. However it is always worth discussing this with me because I am trained to work with younger children and each circumstance is unique.

I will always ask the client (your teenager or child) whether they want you to be present or informed of anything we have discussed. Some clients want us to talk for a few minutes after a session, some want their parent to come to the first session until they are comfortable. I do not work entirely with a parent present because I find that it changes the dynamics in the room but, if that is the only way that it can be accessible, we can discuss this. My safeguarding policy is available and I can email it to you on request and I have an enhanced DBS.

Examples of when a child might choose to come to me include:

  • Grief and loss

  • Friendships

  • Family dynamics

  • School

  • Neurodiversity

You can refer your teenager or child to me using the contact form and we can discuss it together from there.
